Meet the Team


The project is currently managed by a steering group formed in January 2016, and this consists of experienced Church members and an expert financial adviser.

Steering group


The steering group is chaired by the minister of the Church, the Revd Peter Sheasby, and consists of Jennie Capstick, John Capstick (Church Steward), John Cunningham, Paul Emberley (Project Lead, and Circuit Steward), Roger Hadfield (Church Steward, and Church Property Steward), Nigel Hardwick (Church Property Steward, and former District Property Secretary), Rosemary Hadfield, Alan and Ann Lonsdale (Church Stewards) and Richard Lukey (Church Steward).


Paul Emberley has been a member of the Methodist Church for 50 years. In 1985/86 he project managed the development of a new Methodist Church in Woodingdean, Brighton, close to his family home. Today Paul lives in Malton, North Yorkshire, and is a member of the Circuit Leadership Team in Ryedale. He is a Malton Town Councillor, Deputy Mayor of Malton and Chairman of the Malton and Norton Area Partnership. Recently retired, he has spent 45 years in business and commerce, working in both the private and public sectors in the UK and internationally, including director level roles with Trafalgar House PLC, Kvaerner ASA, Metronet Limited, First Group PLC, The Department of Transport, and East Coast Main Line Company Limited.


Richard Lukey is a Steward at Malton Methodist Church and has twice been President of Malton, Norton & District Lions Club which he leaves in June 2019 after 35 years, to devote more time to The Wesley Centre project. An engineer by training he has worked in South America and Africa as well as the UK and is now one of three directors of digital technology specialist business consultancy CDI Alliance Ltd. He joined Malton Methodist Church after completing an "Exploring Christianity" course run by Revd. Paul Williams at Christ Church, Fulwood in Sheffield in 2009. Until 2014 he had family connections to Sheffield and has lived in Thorpe Bassett just outside Malton for over 30 years.
